Well the news came with a dull thud to the senses. Listening to the radio on the way into work this morning, fighting with a headache and naff weather. John Hughes has died. The man who brought us films like The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day off and my fav, Weird Science. Wow.
I don’t think there’s a Hughes film I haven’t seen, even the really bad ones. Although he wasn’t really an active “player” in hollywood any more, there is a sense of loss with him having gone from the world. Such a shame.

I don’t think many people realize what kind of influence he was on movie making.
I grew up with John Hughes movies. He helped me when I got stuck.
Not sure what I would say is my favourite; either “Some kind of wonderful” or maybe “She’s having a baby”.
A genius, lost from this life.
I think for anyone that’s in their thirties then John Hughes probably had a huge influence on their lives. Look at what kids today get, High School Musical, we got angsty teenagers that spent time in detention, stole vintage Ferrari’s, bunked off school, made hot women out of computers and had to deal with bullies.
It was a shame he wasn’t part of the film world, but I found out recently that it was because John Candy died, and he blamed Hollywood for robbing him of his friend. The guy really seemed to care about what he was doing and who his audience was.
